Statue of Unity, Gujarat Overview
The Statue of Unity, a 182-metre bronze-clad statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, has stood as the world's tallest statue since its inauguration in October 2018, more than twice the height of the Statue of Liberty. It stands on Sadhu Bet, a river island in the Narmada, facing the Sardar Sarovar Dam about 3.2 km upstream, and commemorates Patel's role in unifying India's princely states into a single nation after Independence. The statue is connected to Kevadia town by expressways, a broad-gauge railway line and a helipad, and its base houses a museum, an exhibition hall and a viewing gallery reached by high-speed elevators roughly 500 feet up.
