The Pantheon, one of the best-preserved monuments of Ancient Rome, is an iconic landmark situated in the heart of the city near Piazza della Rotonda. It is particularly known for its massive dome, which remains the largest unreinforced concrete dome in the world. The oculus, a circular opening at the center of the dome, is a fascinating feature that illuminates the interior with natural light. Also, the marble-clad interiors and the 60-ton Egyptian granite columns at the entrance are worth seeing. The origins of the Pantheon are contested, with some claiming that it was a temple dedicated to the pagan gods of Rome while others say it was the sacra privata of the original builder, Agrippa.
